An affect grid is a two-dimensional scale, with one dimension ranging from unpleasant to pleasant feelings, the other measuring the strength of the effect. Russell, Weiss and Mendelsohn (1989) argue that these two dimensions are most constitutive for an emotional state.

The affect grid provides an easy-to-understand framework that enables test persons to easily evaluate often diffuse emotional effects.
